In the early 1940’s the Italian Government Italian bought the property with plans to convert it into the headquarters of the Italian School of Madrid. Batres Castle or Batres Fortress is located in the Batres municipality, south of the Community of Madrid (Spain), bordering the province of Toledo. This fortress-palace which was built during the Renaissance, is preserved in very good condition, almost complete.
The building was declared a Historic-Artistic Complex on July 22, 1970 by decree of the Ministry of Science and Education. In addition to the castle, this legal figure protects different monuments near its enclave, as is the case of the Garcilaso Fountain.
